If your computer is on, shut it down by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu.To access the Installer and other utilities in OS X Recovery, you need to start up from the hidden Recovery HD partition. You will not perform an installation, but you will get an opportunity to look at the steps leading up to the installation.
